now the tricky part how to heat all the aquariums. would heating and cooling the room 24/7 with a split ac be cheaper to run than 20+ heaters?

The study is not great science because there are too many variables I have not controlled but it gives us an idea
I repeated the study with the way more prolific N Guentheri blue at 10 weeks incubation
same study with equal weight of peat, equal volume and depth of water and equal temperature of hatching water and incubation temperature after wetting
On this occasion I used 1)declorinated tap water pH 8.5
2) siblings water (7 adults of N Guentheri blue)pH 7.0
3) water from adults N Rachovii (4 large adults)pH7.8
result at 24 hours was +100 fry (I stopped counting at 100) for all groups I estimate 150 fry in each container.Definitely no effect. The Palmqvisti effect could easily be not representative because of small numbers of eggs present. The differing pH of water was unfortunate.I saw no belly sliders in any of the containers.
Any suggestions as to what on earth Im going to do with 450 Guentheri blue????
And by the way I always keep my Notho water at +8.0 if I can they are much more disease prone if it becomes acid esp. the touchy Red Korthausae

The gold-yellow pectoral fins present on their distal part a remarkable light blue to whitish marginal band. Dorsal and anal fins are gold-yellow and present numerous small deep-red spots, which are being distributed in more or less concentric rings along the fin base. The main body colour is light blue, somewhat more iridescent towards the dorsal-side; this ground colour is being interrupted by a remarkable reticulation pattern formed by the red to dark red borders composing the scale margins. The eye displays a bright iridescent light blue coloration.

Female specimens present, just like their male counterparts, a shortened, non-elongated body shape which give them the appearance of very robust fishes, which they are in Nothobranchius terms. The body colour is grey to greyish-brown with a much lighter belly side and faint golden reflections. Towards the rear-end of the body, the scales present fainted dark grey borders. The pared fins are colourless to light brown. The anal fin is in general gray to gray-brown.

depending on what you have, store at 22 plus (if just raised mine to 24) for the amount of time for that specie. Place peat into a container and wet to a depth of 10 to 15 mm.
Wait for 2 to 24 hours and syphon the fry out useing a basting syringe

I can read German (to a limited extent) and find this article very strange... it talks about a friend of a friend that were really bird watchers, but one of them found a fish in one of the Alice Springs artesian vents (same area you would find the desert goby). I don't know where they bought the specimens back to, but they had 2 males, one female and one immature. They only had a few eggs from when they caught them, but they did not spawn again while in captivity.
The name they gave it (I feel that as they were not ichthyologists, they did not have it named correctly using the right channels, hence that fish is not listed) is referring to the ability of changing its colour from blue to red when the pH changes from alkaline to acidic (litmus paper - in German is Lackmus - papier) hence the name A. lackmuskilli
It seems to be just a rant of a story of an old man..... but he refers to one of these guys as a professor BUSH who is a well known native fauna expert. In light of this - I would assume someone of his stature would have provided the relevant authorities with the appropriate info to do a proper taxonomic study. And with the name "BUSH" which is not spelt the normal Germanic way ("BUSCH") and being a friend of a friend that found this professor in the 'bush' or outback, I feel it is just a tale that was told over a campfire....
Either way, he and his friend did not get any contact details of this professor Bush, and the article mentions something about the midday heat affecting their minds....
I will get my dad to go over it with me to translate it a bit better when I have some time.
I'll keep you all posted....

Until then, I think we will have to wait until someone from ANGFA fame finds the right water hole....

I will pass this article onto a friend from ANGFA for a bit of yarn... who knows?

I have always used fresh (cool) rainwater to hatch Nothos (and then remove the hatchlings from the peat container) this gave me the best hatch rate per attempt.... but after 24hours, I would add more water to it slowly bit by bit day by day with treated tapwater and if there are large numbers in a small tank, then I would harden the water with bicarb (1g to 40litres) and keep an eye on the pH.

I only had a problem with velvet when I introduce new stocks... these were kept separate from the rest of the colonies until the velvet was under control.
